Trying to find Gloria Flentje's correct e-mail address (the message I sent to the one provided by the law school bounced), I discovered that she was being honored as a "Woman of Vision" by the Wichita YWCA today. No surprise to any of us who knew her from afar back then, of course.

Eugenia Hunter was looking great when I saw her today.

She professedly quickly deletes e-mail she doesn't recognize immediately--not needing a larger penis ("or, for that matter, bigger boobs")--but can nevertheless be reached.

Being old, we agreed, lets you say whatever you want--not that I recall Eugenia ever being particularly reticent.

Necrology Update

The law school's report that Mary Lou Rouhandeh is deceased was, thankfully, greatly exaggerated, as Mark Twain said. Mary Lou is alive and well in the San Diego area, though I will leave it to her to update the law school if she chooses: maybe this was just her clever way to get off mailing lists?

Thanks David, both for thinking to send this link and for the blog itself.  With my mother still alive and kicking in Carbondale, I have some connection there that many of our classmates do not, though my contact with the law school has really dropped off since I'm less involved with the Alumni Assoc.  I had heard of Loren and Dean Roady, though not Linda.  I fear at my rapidly advancing age (twice as fast as the calendar for most folks it seems [a working definition of self pity?]), that it's only a portent of things to come.  I have long since become accustomed to the familiarity of the obituary page of the Peoria paper, and I do not like it at all.  Weren't we all so much younger (better looking, thinner, "smarter" and surrounded by the same) when standing in the first lines at the Blue Barracks so few years ago?  I remember it that way.  Give my best to Mona and all, and drop me a note when you have time. In Memoriam Tom Roady

The following obituary appeared this spring in the ISBA Bar News:


Thomas Roady: lawyer, judge, law professor

Thomas Golman Roady Jr. of Carrollton, a retired lawyer, judge and educator, died March 30 at age 84 in Jerseyville Hospital.

A lieutenant colonel in the Army Air Corps during World War II combat in the South Pacific, Mr. Roady became a major in the Air Force Judge Advocates in 1948 and retired in 1968 as a colonel.

An honors graduate of the University of Illinois College of Law in 1948, he received a master of laws degree in 1949 from Columbia University and began his law practice in Carrollton.

An educator for most of his legal career, Mr. Roady taught at the Schools of Law at Vanderbilt University and the University of Tennessee, where he was honored as Outstanding Professor of the Year.

Later the interim dean at the Washington University Law School, he was involved in establishment of the law school at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale.

Mr. Roady also served as a judge in the 7th Circuit and was presiding judge in Greene County when he retired in 1989. He returned to practice with McDonald, Strickland & Clough in Carrollton until last year.
